During this lockdown, we all had so much time to reconsider our habits, rethink that we took so many things for granted, and finally rediscover ourselves. We came across so many beautiful, moreover, meaningful art pieces in recent months. It is our pleasure to give you Shreshi Singh, who stole our hearts away. We reached the artist, based in New York, currently in Mumbai, and asked her some questions.
SNM: Tell us a little about your background – what path led you to what you’re doing now?
SS: I was born in a small town in India, but have always traveled extensively. I consider my childhood experiences to be quite unique. I am obsessed with India and the stories that dwell in every corner of my country. My art is driven by my passion to bring stories from India to the world and to bring the stories from the world to India.

SNM: What is the message behind your art?
SS: My art aims to represents women in their true element: complex, multidimensional, thinking, living, doing beings as opposed to what women (Indian Women, especially) have traditionally been represented as: An object of physical beauty. I like to think of my art as a woman as my Instagram handle states: My Art Is A Woman
SNM: What is a source of inspiration that is not art/design-related?
SS: India, Women and my travels, these are the major source of inspiration for me.
SNM: If your work had a soundtrack, what songs would be on it?
SS: Huh, tough one, there are plenty but I am currently obsessed retro Bollywood movies songs, the favorite one being: Sili Hawa Choo Gayi from the movie Libaas.
