On the occasion of The Salone del Mobile 2015 Marni showroom at Via Umbria 42 turned into colorful fruit market, The Marni Mercado de Paloquemao.
Inspired by the homonymous market of Bogota, Colombia, Marni proposed an installation where main protagonists were the bold colours of the exotic fruits from a faraway land, their shapes and interpretation.Like in the last year’s Animal House project, this edition offered unique pieces released in several colours. The fruits became sculptures in metal and pvc which could be turned into containers, in larger sizes or decorative items for centerpieces, in smaller sizes.
Marni Mercado de Paloquemao was linked to the theme of the Expo Milano 2015 featuring a rich banquet where pineapple, guanabana, zapote and caruba could be tasted: those were the fruits that Marni had brought from Columbia, with the aim to offer the taste of different flavours to the Design Week’s public, proposing thematic workshop for adults and children.
The set up of the installation invited to conviviality, to be lived around a large table, enriched by the shapes of exotic fruitsand all set with tin plates hand decorated with Marni’s archive motifs. Around the table were placed new Marni chairs made of metal and colourful pvc weavings, whereas stools of various shapes, colours and woven patterns completed the collection. An expressive freedom in choice of compositions, which was reflected by Marni’s collections, where each combination was unique and unexpected.
Also this year, the limited edition of objects and furnishings, was entirely handmade in Columbia, involving a group of women who had founded the independence and emancipation through their work.
Marni Mercado de Paloquemao reaffirmed Marni’s commitment to initiatives: the proceeds from the sale of the products was donated to Rincon’s Workshop.
Well done!
