Lately, I have been thinking about the pure, raucous pleasure found in dressing up just looking and feeling good. Do you remember doing dressing up as a child? We all did it so naturally, as children transforming ourselves into pirates, warriors, royals and even orphans with just a simple quick costume change armed with a healthy dose of imagination we could be anything. As we grow up these transformations still exist, but they are often subtler: varied facets of ourselves have been influenced and developed as we switch between work, hanging out with friends, partying, dating, long walks, holiday, bedrooms. Often these come with their own, slightly tweaked sartorial characters.

All we ever wanted as children and even now an adult is to be able to possess and feel the powerful force of dressing as an of expressing who we are and the power that comes with that and it is one the makes us believe we can be anything. Think about how powerful that is, and so it creates a deep sense of joy when hearing you or encounter a designer who makes clothes with the aim of arousing emotions that pure and yet permits one to be anything he or she wants.

Pavlina Jausss aroused that emotion when first discovered the brand, they combine excellent handcraft, design, and fashion, coming together in a powerful mix of contradictions and fluid cohesion. We sat with one of the owners of the German brand to talk about the brand.

SNM: Please tell us about your story as the brain behind Pavlina Jauss. How did you go into fashion design?

Pavlina: There was a time in my life where I needed a change. I wanted to express myself in a unique way. I started to study fashion design in Hamburg and from day one I knew that this was the perfect way for me to express myself.

SNM:What do you love most about fashion and the idea of amplifying and expressing beauty with your clothes?

Pavlina: As a fashion designer, you have the possibility to express almost anything through your collection. The people that buy and wear my clothes often combine them in new and unique ways that change the original expression. Garments are an additional tool to communicate, make statements and express yourself.

SNM: How will you describe Pavlina Jauss?

Pavlina: Pavlina Jauss is my personal approach to developing unconventional, avant-gardistic, but still wearable fashion.

SNM: There is a lot of white and black in your collections?

Pavlina: My approach to design is pretty clean. Black and white looks always classy and timeless.

SNM: What inspires your designs and how much of that affect the out come of each piece you create?

Pavlina: I am inspired by everything around me. Mythology, history and the different cultures on this planet are important inspirations to me.

SNM: A lot of artists love people to interact with their pieces, feel something anytime they come in contact with their piece. How do you want people to feel when they wear your clothes?

Pavlina: I want people to feel comfortable, confident and unique in my clothes.

SNM: Tell us about your last collection

Pavlina: Our last collection was called stones. The textures and forms of stones inspired me there. The fact that a stone can not tell you what it has seen in the centuries of its existence is fascinating to me.

SNM: What are your plans for the brand going forward?

Pavlina: So far we are growing in a slow and steady way. I am against the concepts of fast fashion. Being able to control my production and creation, because we produce almost anything in our own studio in Germany, is my way of being sustainable. This is not the easiest way to grow a fashion brand, but it feels right.

SNM: Where can we shop for your clothes?

Pavlina: Right now we have stockists in Egypt, Georgia, Germany, Italy, Russia, the United Kingdom. You can also find us online at Erebus Style. Chris Tull-Williams is the curator of this online platform. A friend and trustworthy partner.
