What we really love about Edward Hutabarat is that he is one of those Indonesian designers who really tries to enhance the image of batik-wear as internationally accepted fashion around the globe.
His recent Autumn-Winter Collection 2023, called Kabakil, was showcased in one of the most sacred and magical places in Indonesia, Borobudur Temple during recent Nusantara Weaving Festival.
The kabakil is created by artisan weavers from Sumba Island by using the warps at the ends of the hinggi as wefts, which are slotted through a new set of long thin warps, laid horizontally over the textile.
Edward Hutabarat’s collection is the best example of how to preserve cultural heritages that the current generation is increasingly not thinking about.
