Down the Hatch is located in the little town of Lahaina, Maui right across from the famous Banyan Tree. Down the Hatch is one of Maui’s most favorite hidden gems and was even featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives in 2017. Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, happy hour, and late night. It’s also known to have one of the longest happy hours in Maui not only offering delicious cocktails, but traditional Hawaiian adult shave ice beverages to quench your thirst.

No matter the time of day Down the Hatch caters to all types of people all hours of the day. Opened in 2015 by childhood friends Javier, Jilian, and Dave, they started Down the Hatch to bring Maui their unique style of Southern Aloha. In their own words “Down the Hatch is a modern surfer dive lounge with fresh, local food and drinks”.

It’s awesome for both locals and tourists. Down the Hatch is nothing but relaxed and casual. When you arrive, you’ll quite literally need to walk down the hatch, most likely wait in line (well worth it), order at the register, and then find yourself a seat inside the courtyard of The Wharf until your food is ready. The staff here is very friendly and helpful. Known mainly for their lunch and dinner menu because of their amazing flavorful dishes.

Their seafood features some of the best locally sourced seafood creating some of the most delicious Hawaiian dishes you’ll taste. It’s recommended to experience Down the Hatch with a group of people so you can taste all their amazing dishes like Lava Lava Shrimp (also comes as tacos), Crispy Coconut Shrimp, Koki Beach Quesadilla, Lobster and Crab Stuffed Grilled Cheese, Surf-N-Turf Sandwich, and Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi.

Down the Hatch is comfort. Right next to Down the Hatch is their other small business Breakwall Shave Ice, featuring traditional Hawaiian shave ice, acai bowls, smoothies, cold-press, local Maui coffee, and adult shave ice. It’s easy to say there’s something for everyone here! Down the Hatch is the perfect pit stop, birthday restaurant, friend’s night out, family birthday, or morning brunch. No matter why you choose Down the Hatch you are sure to not be disappointed with their impeccable food and atmosphere.
