The inspiration for Spring Summer 2017 begins with Gloria Steinem‘s poignant My Life On The Road. With her strength and stark determination to fight for feminism without compromise, Steinem embodies ideals of femininity with a bite- celebrating the complexity of a woman, layered far beneath surface beauty. Likewise, the floral paintings by William Kentridge, photographes by Taryn Simon and Neons by Tracey Emin all offer a steep subtext, encouraging the viewer to look deep beneath the shell.
This notion of modern feminism is reflected in a loosening of silhouettes juxtaposed with refined tailoring, creating a fluid offering that gives her the power of choice. Hand engraved hardware details, made in Nepal, remind us of her journey and her vigour.
This season’s color palette offers a powerful amalgamation of practical and controlled american sportswear in hues of ivory and noir with the exotic mysticism of a glamorous explorer, in shades of citron, iris and azure.
The curves and linear details of William Kentridge’s and Taryn Simon’s abstract florals inspired the silver plated brass jewelry, handmade by artisans in Nepal, echoing the brand’s commitment to nurturing nepalese craft and creating employment opportunity for women.
